This proposal to inhabit a portion of the East River in Manhattan between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges with a mixed use development was derived through the analysis of aerodynamic principles. Each structure takes on the form of an airfoil, orienting itself to accelerate and capture wind energy. Each airfoil structure is punctured, creating voids which are occupied by vertical-axis wind turbines. The form of these voids is manipulated to accelerate wind through the void. In addition to capturing energy, these voids provide natural ventilation and daylight for the interior spaces. |
